Julia Gabaldón, founding CEO of Quality New Mexico, hosts the new "Performance Excellence USA" radio show every Sunday at 7:00 pm (MST) on 770KKOB and www.770KKOB.com in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In collaboration with ASQ, The Alliance for Performance Excellence, and the Baldrige National Quality Program, Julia showcases businesses and organizations that advance the USA's competitiveness. The weekly show podcasts are linked from www.asq.org, www.baldrigepe.org, www.nist.gov/baldrige, and www.qualitynewmexico.org.
Julia served on the Baldrige Board of Examiners in 1998 and 1999 and was appointed to serve a 3-year term on the Baldrige Board of Overseers in 2003 by the 34th US Secretary of Commerce Don Evans. Julia currently serves on The Alliance for Performance Excellence Board of Directors. The New Mexico Business Weekly honored Julia as a New Mexico Power Broker in 2007-2009.
In the early '90's, US Senator Jeff Bingaman invited Motorola Executive Chris Galvin to speak at a business forum in New Mexico. Chris challenged New Mexico to embark on a quality journey to make New Mexico a more competitive state. On April 1, 1993, while then employed at Sandia National Laboratories, Julia received an assignment to facilitate New Mexico's quality initiative. With support from her manager and mentor, Dr. Charles Tapp, Julia took charge by recruiting talented volunteers and in-kind contributions to create Quality New Mexico and the New Mexico Quality Awards patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
Julia is a native New Mexican. She received her BA and MA from the University of New Mexico. While working as a high school teacher, Julia contacted a Spanish radio station about the possibility of her high school Spanish language students recording Spanish proverbs on the radio. The response was positive and this was the beginning of Julia's hobby in New Mexico media. During the past 30 years, Julia hosted 3 television shows and 2 radio shows, including the Quality New Mexico Radio Show on 770KKOB for over 10 years. Julia also co-hosted the New Mexico Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon for 16 years. |
