Introducing The New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards Program
by Retha Shiplet, COO and Director of Programs
18 years ago Quality New Mexico (QNM) established the New Mexico Quality Awards program. Effective 2012 the program has a new name - New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards. Governor Susana Martinez provided a logical time for QNM to make the name change happen with Executive Order 2012-003 “Whereas, the State of New Mexico desires to be known as a “State of Excellence” with its businesses and organizations achieving role model and best in class performance status”. QNM fosters the use of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and is committed to assisting New Mexico businesses and organizations on their path to be high-performing, high-integrity, and achieving sustainable results in their marketplace. Along with its name change the program has four levels of assessments - three of which receive public recognition Level 2 Piñon (commitment to performance excellence), Level 3 Roadrunner (progress) and the highest Level 4 Zia Award (achievement). Level 1 Adobe (foundation) is a beginning level assessment for those interested in adapting and applying performance improvement principles. The 2012 program has one cycle only with Intents to Apply due by June 15, 2012 and Applications due July 20th. Also, submit an application to serve as a member of the 2012 Board of Examiners.
Learning the Baldrige Criteria Workshop
This workshop Introduces the elements of the Baldrige Framework and centers on the seven categories of best practices upon which the system is based: Leadership; Strategic Planning; Customer Focus; Measurement, Analysis, & Knowledge Management; Workforce Focus; Process Management; and Results. Attendees will understand how linking vision/mission, strategies, measures, and processes enable their organization to improve communication, productivity, and overall effectiveness in performance. This workshop is highly recommended for organizations new to the Criteria, those considering writing an application to the awards program, and examiners.
